Final Fantasy XIV “Before the Fall” patch 2.5 now live

Part one of Final Fantasy XIV’s Patch 2.5, which is known as Before the Fall is now live.

New dungeons are available for you and your fellow adventurers to challenge, including the Keeper of the Lake. Here you’ll be tasked with climbing inside the wreckage of a giant Garlean airship that was destroyed by wyrm lord Midgardsormr. The wyrm lord’s remains are still wrapped around his defeated for to his day.

The last chapter of the Crystal Tower story also makes its debut and sends players into the World of Darkness, where familiar Final Fantasy bosses await.

The primal elder Odin has been spotted once more in the Shroud and adventurers have been asked to investigate. This special battle was created for Square Enix’s global fan events, but now it’s available for everyone to try — and it’s even harder than before.

Of course, everyone’s favorite Manderville man Hildibrand makes his return as well. The agent of enquiry and inspector extraordinaire is hot on the phantom thief’s trail, and it’s up to you to aid in solving the case. It seems that Gilgamesh has returned with even more arms than before, each wielding a different weapon, too.

Patch 2.51 is also on the way, featuring the Manderville Gold Saucer. If you’re a Final Fantasy VII fan, you may find many similarities here from the Gold Saucer there! Mini-games, user-controllable chocobo racing and even a full version of the Triple Triad card game from Final Fantasy VIII will be playable.

As mentioned before, this is simply part one of Patch 2.5. Before the Fall Part 2, set to release in March, will close the main storyline that began with A Realm Reborn and prepare players for the release of the Heavensward expansion.

If you want to try FFXIV out, a 14-day free trial is available now for PS3 and PS4.
