Coleco is making a comeback with the launch of the Coleco Chameleon in a partnership with Retro Video Game Systems.
The self-proclaimed “versatile new video game system” serves as a “modern day take on the classic game console” compatible with 8-, 16-, and 32-bit games.
The Chameleon will play cartridge games to become the first console in about two decades to do so.
“[The console] is a love letter to all the classic cartridge-based gaming systems that came before it. It will take gamers and their families back to a simpler time where games were all about great gameplay and fun factor.”
-Mike Kennedy, Retro Video Game Systems president
According to developers, the console will be “significantly more affordable” than the original ColecoVision from 1982.
The Coleco Chameleon will be available to buy early next year, and will be on display at February’s Toy Fair New York.
