Call of Duty surpasses 250 million sales worldwide

Since the franchise first launched in 2003, Call of Duty has had over 250 million sales worldwide, according to publisher Activision.

That milestone was mentioned in an Activision statement related to sales data released by the NPD Group today that noted that Call of Duty has been North America’s number one-selling franchise for the past seven years.

“This achievement is thanks to the amazing experiences created by all of our development teams, and would not be possible without the incredible passion from the Call of Duty community. We congratulate Treyarch on creating an incredibly engaging and enormously fun game with Black Ops 3 and look forward to what’s to come in 2016.”

The Division’s beta kicks off Jan. 28

Tom Clancy’s The Division beta will launch Jan. 28 on Xbox One, according to publisher Ubisoft.

The timed exclusivity will still be in place for the beta – it won’t hit PlayStation 4 and Windows until 24 hours after it goes live on Xbox One, with the beta ending on Jan. 31.

According to Ubisoft, The Division’s beta will start off with some “story-driven missions,” and then goes into the team-based Dark Zone, which allows for cooperative and competitive play .The beta will not require a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold account.

You can guarantee access to the beta by pre-ordering The Division.

Tom Clancy’s The Division will be available March 8 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows.

Pokken Tournament launches in North America this March

Pokken Tournament, the Wii U port to Bandai Namco’s arcade title, is heading west on March 18, according to The Pokemon Company.

The fighting game is a Pokemon-style take on Tekken, complete with its own unique fighting pad peripheral. That controller will make it stateside, too, to be used with the Wii U version.

Included among the combatants are a variety of pocket monsters, including Pikachu, Lucario, and Mewtwo.

NPD: PlayStation 4 top-selling console for December, 2015

According to the NPD Group, the PlayStation 4 came out on top of U.S. console sales for the month of December and 2015 as a whole. Lifetime sales of the console are now just a fraction under 36 million units.

According to Sony, “more than 5.7 million PS4s and 35 million PS4 games were sold through to consumers worldwide” during the season.

In November, the PS4 and 35 million PS4 games were sold to consumers worldwide during the season.

December’s hottest-selling games

Call of Duty Black Ops 3

The NPD Group has released its list of the top 10 best-selling games for the month of December, with Call of Duty: Black Ops III taking over the top spot.

Not a single console exclusive broke the top 10. Overall, software sales were down slightly from the same period last year, with new physical game sales coming in at $1.2 billion.

Here’s the complete top 10 list:

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops III (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3, PC)
  • Star Wars Battlefront (Xbox One, PS4, PC)
  • Fallout 4 (Xbox One, PS4, PC)

  • Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, PC)
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege (Xbox One, PS4, PC)

November’s top-selling game was also Call of Duty: Black Ops III, with Fallout 4 close behind.

In addition to the top games of December, the NPD Group also released a list of 2015’s best sellers, with Call of Duty games book-ending the list.
