Evolve relaunches as free-to-play game
Evolve is relaunching with a new free-to-play business model.
Evolve: Stage 2 completely replaces the existing one. Legacy owners will have instant access to anything they’ve purchased, as well as additional loyalty rewards down the line. New players will have immediate access to a weekly selection of Hunters and Monsters, with the ability to unlock characters of their choice for free through Evolve’s earnable Silver Keys in-game currently.
According to developer Turtle Rock Studios, there are multiple ways to earn Silver Keys, characters, and perks. In addition to daily challenges, and rewards for ranking up individual characters and your overall profile, characters will be given out as rewards for logging in on consecutive days or completing tutorials.
Real money unlocking options will be offered in the coming weeks, according to Turtle Rock, but they’re still working out appropriate pricing.
The relaunch also brings a slew of gameplay and balance changes, including giving all Hunters the ability to dome the Monster, and the Trapper’s new “World Scan” ability to give the entire team a sense of what direction the monster is travelling relative to their position. The developer is also planning to release four new Hunters over the course of Stage 2’s life.
