Leave it to Steam to give you a pulse of a PC gaming scene. The popular gaming portal has listed the top 100 best sellers of the year based on revenue, and it clearly reflects what people were buying. Indie titles had a particularly strong year, led by games like No Man’s Sky.
Some of the other big hits were repeats of 2015, like Rocket League, Fallout 4, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt thanks to major add-ons and evergreen gameplay. Also, indie greats like Ark: Survival Evolved and Stardew Valley were certainly able to compete in the big leagues with juggernauts like Doom and Call of Duty: Black Ops III. Naturally, Steam’s parent company Valve found itself strewn across the list as well with both its games and the Steam Controller.
All in all, it’s a great reminder that indie hits and older games can still hang with the hype machine.
