Danish soccer club F.C. Copenhagen has become the latest professional sports team to expand into esports, partnering with Copenhagen-based entertainment company Nordisk Film to establish an esports unit with the former members of the Dignitas Counter-Strike team.
Mathias “MSL” Lauridsen, Kristian “konfig” Wienecke, Ruben “RUBINO” Villarroel, Rene “cajunb” Borg, and Emil “MagiskboY” Reif have signed a two-year contract with the new North organization. Its Counter-Strike team will begin competition at the ELeague Major tournament on Jan. 27 in Atlanta.
“We are two leading companies within entertainment and sports, venturing into esport at the very highest level. We see great potential and have high ambitions with North that will be among the world’s strongest from day one.”
