PS4 Pro Media Player 4K support coming in new update

Sony will update its Media Player app on the PlayStation 4 Pro to enable 4K video playback, according to the PlayStation Blog.

With the update, you’ll be able to watch 4K videos in .mp4 format using the app by either plugging in a USB device or connecting to a home server with the videos on it.

Sony has pointed out that you can’t use the same drive as one you may have formatted to serve as additional PS4 storage space.

Additionally, PlayStation VR owners will be able to watch 4K VR videos with the update. Despite the headset only outputting in 1080p, videos should still look nicer than they would have otherwise.

The update won’t do anything to address the inability to play 4K Blu-ray discs on a PS4 Pro since it’s a hardware issue.
